Special Projects

Annual Cherokee Rose Garden Club Plant Swap and Sale 

The plant swap and sale provides an opportunity for CRGC, other garden clubs, the Council, community organizations, private individuals and business to sell, buy and trade plants and gardening items.  CRGC donates plants and garden supplies to raise money for the club or council projects.  Master Gardeners provide informal horticultural education.  


Westmont Elementary School Gardens

Members design and maintain the gardens, donate supplies and plants, and provide financial support.  The gardens provide educational opportunities for the children.


Meadow Garden 

Members design and maintain the gardens.

 

Masters Table Fountain Garden:  

Members design and maintain the gardens, donate supplies and plants, and provide financial support.


Backyard Habitat Certification

The club promotes the caring and protecting wildlife by encouraging members to meet the criteria of Backyard Habitat Certification.  


National Garden Week and Georgia Garden Week

The club promotes awareness in gardening during by taking arrangements to public places and participating in Council’s garden week activities. 


Monthly Fundraiser

A door prize drawing is held monthly to raise money for the club’s projects, donations and activities.


VA Calendar Collection

Members donate calendars at each meeting for distribution to patients at the Veterans Administration Medical Center.


Columbia County Cares Food Bank Collection

Club collects food monthly and provides an annual monetary donation to the food bank. 


American Cancer Society Donation

An annually monetary donation is made to the cancer society in memory of our charter member, Brenda Drake and in honor of CRGC cancer survivors.


Natural Disaster Support

Club provides financial donations to at least one natural disaster annually.


Press On Fund to Cure Childhood Cancer (“Press On”) 

The club will support “Press On” by participating in the Patrick's Paper-whites and amaryllis bulbs fundraiser by planting bulbs, decorating pots, delivering pots, selling and purchasing the plants and collecting money for the items sold.

Programs and Activities

Monthly Garden Club Programs

Garden related programs are presented at the meetings by a guest speaker.


Horticulture program

A five minute program on horticulture is presented at the monthly meetings.


Birds and Butterflies Program

A five minute program on birds and butterflies is presented at the monthly meetings. 


Christmas Luncheon

A Christmas brunch, short program and gift exchange are held to promote Christmas cheer and friendship in December.  Family and friends are invited.


Annual Potluck Lunch and Plant Swap

An annual potluck and plant swap is held in June to promote friendship and share plants.  Members provide information about the plant and its care.


Field Trips

In addition to the monthly meetings, the club offers horticulture related field trips to the members and their guests four times a year. 


Community Activities, Projects and Donations

Local Flower Shows

Members participate in local flower shows.


Pendleton King Park (PKP)

Members volunteer in PKP and participate in the fundraising activities.


Sacred Heart Cultural Center

The club supports their fundraisers though participation in the Sacred Heart Festival activities.


Phinizy Swamp Nature Park

The club supports the park through their membership.


Master Gardeners

Many of the members are master gardeners who provide volunteer service through the master gardeners programs.

ACGC Spring Luncheon

The club will support the luncheon by taking reservations, attending the function, donating door prizes and supporting the fundraising activities.


ACGC Sacred Heart Festival Flower Show 

Members are encouraged to participate in the setting up and entering of specimens in the March 2012 flower show.


Basic Horticulture Sessions

Members are on the planning committee and are responsible for the nametags, centerpieces, door prizes and refreshments.


Fall Tour of Gardens

The club will support the ACGC fundraiser by members opening their gardens for tour and attending it.  


Speakers Bureau.  

Members will participate.


Habitat for Humanity Project

The club members donate plants to the Habitat for Humanity fundraiser events.


Perennial Gardens at Riverwalk

Members donate plants and work in the gardens.

Cherokee Rose Supports The Garden Club of Georgia

Garden Therapy Christmas Stockings

The club donates one handmade Christmas stocking per member to the residents of the East Central Georgia Regional Hospital, and contributes two dollars per member to the GCG garden therapy activities. 


Garden Club of Georgia, Inc., Scholarships

The club supports the scholarship fund by purchasing at least one Engagement Calendar per member.


Smokey Bear and Woodsy Owl Poster Contest

The club encourages the members to invite schools, children and grandchildren to participate in the contests


State Botanical Garden 

The club makes a monetary donation to the State Botanical Garden’s memorial gardens. 


Roadside Beautification 

The club makes a monetary donation to plant wildflowers and daffodils on our state highways.


Garden week in Georgia

The club will participate in Garden Week in Georgia

National Garden Club, Inc.

Plantings for Public and Special Places

The club participates in the maintenance of Westmont School, Meadow Garden and Master Table gardens.  These gardens include perennial, native plants, herb, vegetable and water gardens.


Protecting Aquatic Ecosystems

The club educates its members on protecting the ecosystem through program presentations.
